Cannes Lions 2017: Living the Berlin School Legacy

June 27, 2017

The magic and madness of this year's Cannes Lions has come to a close and the winners have taken their trophies back home to prepare for their next award-winning campaigns. We are beaming with pride to see so many of our alumni amongst the list of award-winners and have compiled a list of the top Berlin School stars who shone the brightest on the French Riviera this year.

Luis Miguel Messianu - Alma

Hispanic agencies won a record 20 prizes at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Half of those were awarded to the Alma Agency, founded by EMBA alumn, Luis Miguel Messianu, for their outstanding work on the Netflix series 'Narcos'. Check out the hilarious 'Spanish Lessons' campaign here

Gil Kuruneri - Ogilvy New York

Gil Kuruneri defines himself as a 'Creator. Artist. Disruptor' which made him a perfect fit for the Berlin School mindset. He took home the trophy for Grand Prix for Good, a special category for campaigns that fight hard to raise awareness of global issues. His team at Ogilvy New York came together to construct 'The Refugee Nation', a creative project that dived into issues of identity and culture within the current refugee crisis.

Nicolas Mejia - Ogilvy Chicago

Nicolas Mejia is a Colombian Creative Director, writer, weekend drummer, and sneaker collector. Currently studying on our EMBA program, his work with Ogilvy Chicago snagged the Gold and the Bronze in print and publishing for their 'Kiwi Portraits' campaign. The agency re-imagined great works of art portraiture by adding a painting below, illustrating the fancy footwear worn underneath.

Fast Track to Brand Me

You know what they say a sneaker says 1000 words? We here at the Berlin School ran our own competition during the festival. Our goal was to find out how people articulate their personal brand through their footwear. Personal branding was the topic of our open workshop at Cannes Lions, Fast-Track to BrandME. We were quickly flooded with photos of flip-flops, sneakers, high-tops and low, but one clear winner stood out from the crowd. We gladly crown Alex Thore winner of one year's worth of Berlin School consulting!
