Seymour joins the Berlin School of Creative Leadership Board of Governors
The Berlin School is pleased to announce that the music industry veteran and godfather of the new wave music genre, Seymour Stein, will be joining the Berlin School Board of Governors.
Seymour is the co-founder and chairman of Sire Records Inc. and has served as a Berlin School creative faculty member since 2005.
“Seymour’s unique perspective in the music industry has been a great creative influence in our faculty and now on our board,” said Michael Conrad, President, The Berlin School. “The success of the school depends on the different industries that our participants and board represent, and Seymour is a great addition to our team." The Berlin School board is comprised of leaders from a range of creative industries, including media, journalism, design, interactive and advertising.
In 1966 Stein and record producer Richard Gottehrer founded Sire Productions which led to the formation of Sire Records the label under which he signed pioneer artists such as The Ramones and Talking Heads in 1975, The Pretenders in 1980, Madonna in 1982, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen.
He remains the President of Sire Records and is also Vice President of Warner Bros. Records with whom he has had a marketing and distribution deal from 1976-1994 and again since April 2003. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2005 under the lifetime achievement category.
