Acad. Dir. Doug Guthrie named Dean of GW B-School

27-May-2010

Exec. Academic Director Doug Guthrie named new Dean of George Washington Business School

The Berlin School congratulates its Executive Academic Director, Prof. Doug Guthrie, on his new position as Dean of the Business School at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Professor Guthrie will remain in his position with the Berlin School as before, but he is leaving his joint professorship at New York University's Stern School of Business and the NYU Dept. of Sociology to take up his new role in August 2010. Likewise, his colleague in the leadership of the school's academics, Prof. David Slocum, will remain in his position as Faculty Director of the Berlin School's EMBA program.

The move comes at a time of major disruption in the business school education field, as the finance driven values that underpin many business schools are being questioned by those asking if business can serve society in other ways too. GW is renowned for its nexus of politics, international studies, business and other disciplines, and Prof. Guthrie hopes to lead it towards new heights. Both GW and the Berlin School are pioneering new paths in education and heralding the rise of the specialty MBA.

Prof. Guthrie has previously divided his time between teaching at the Berlin School, NYU and other institutions such as INSEAD, and this move will reduce his focus down to primarily the Berlin School and GW.

The Berlin School is excited to see him take such a great step in his academic career and looks forward to many more great years together.
