The Start Module provides a basis of knowledge so that a participant is equipped to take part in any of the other four modules.
Introduction to the Field of Leadership
This course provides the foundation of the Creative Leadership EMBA by introduction participants to some of the major analytical frameworks in leadership and to ways to apply those theories and frameworks in the analysis and addressing of real challenges. It also provides a better and more rigorous basis for understanding and evaluating organizations and their dynamics in industry and the market.
Applied accounting
Participants develop a deep understanding of the essentials of accounting. Incorporating business situations and issues from their own organizations, the course provides crucial tools for successful business planning and operations. Topics covered include the contents of and connections between the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Account as well as the calculation and interpretation of Contributing Margins and Ratios.
Economics
Understanding fundamental economic theories is essential for analyzing complexity in the business environment of the firm. This course examines concepts such as Perfect Competition (monopoly, economics of scale and scope, oligopoly); Price Discrimination (two part pricing, bundling, search goods, experience goods and signalling); Entry Deterrence (express capacity, vertical integration, market leadership, raising rival costs, predation, limit pricing and price wars); and Product Differentiation (monopolistic competition, branding and vertical differentiation).
Innovation Leadership
Stimulating, steering and sustaining innovation requires specific leadership skills. This course examines how creative leaders can promote a culture of innovation within their teams and organizations. By exploring innovation as part of a disciplined creative process, participants examine the six fundamental attributes of innovation leaders. They also consider specific strategies to develop innovation leadership and to manage the risks of innovation.
Organizational Management
This course develops skills in analyzing an organization, diagnosing its current situation and needs, and designing improvements for greater effectiveness and productivity. Key models are presented and evaluated for how size, structure (both formal and informal), and technology impact operations, strategic planning, talent management and competitive priorities. Special emphasis is given to designing evolving organizations to respond to rapidly changing environments, and to responding to new media and technolgoies on organizations and managers.
Strategy
Mastering key concepts of basic strategy analysis and, increasingly, international strategy, organization, and management, is essential for leaders in creative and other industries. In addition to covering fundamentals in business strategy, this course takes a closer look at strategy formulation (three steps), the value creation-capturing framework and the leadership agenda in the stratgey development process and implementation.
